The Starfish Story

One day a man was running along a beach where the tide had washed thousands of starfish unto the shore. A little girl and boy were picking up starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man stopped and asked the boy, "Why are you throwing those starfish back?" The boy responded, "If they remain in the sun they'll die."

The man looked incredulously at the children and said, "There are thousands of starfish... you can't possibly save all of them... and besides what difference could it make?

The little girl picked up a starfish, threw it into the ocean, looked at the man and said, "It made a difference to that one."
